Coronavirus and Me
Updated: Jan 27
I look at my once bustling Washington community to see:
I SEE STRESSED FACES, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
I SEE EMPTY FOOD SHELVES AND HOARDING PEOPLE, “Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!” Luke 12:24
I SEE ISOLATING FAMILIES, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
I SEE FEAR, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut. 31:6
We are children of God. The God most High ordained us to be here and now.
The God who empowers you and anoints you to overcome the troubles and fears of this world has placed you here.
This does NOT mean ignoring the situation or mandates at hand. But where is the church? Where are we?
Jesus is very clear that we are here to be a light, a hope, a beacon of peace. Remember the church in Acts? They provided so that none had need? “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.” Acts 4:32-35
WE ARE RESPONSIBLE for one another. We are told by Jesus to store up treasures in HEAVEN, not here. Am I worried about my aging parents (mom recovering from cancer and dad chronically ill) and my 94 year old grandmother? Am I worried about my immune compromised 8 year old (see pic below) who is regularly in the hospital for breathing issues? Yes.
Do I also remember Jesus saying, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27. Does every ounce of me want to hide and lock the doors? Yes. But then faith lights up my mind and soul. I cannot ignore the hope of faith.
Take heart! We are not alone and come what may- we have a purpose and a calling. We are here to be a light and show the world what JESUS looks like.
We are here for such a time as this!
