THE THIEF OF SOULS
I had an awakening experience several years ago. I had been selling out my time. I had been frittering it away with electronic entertainment and my heart would rise and fall on the story lines of fake relationships. I saw Jesus working through my toddler son and I realized that my complacent choices had made it necessary for the Holy Spirit to bypass me. Instead, He used my toddler to reach a lost and hurting man.
The Holy Spirit bypassed me to wake me up.
The dreams for this life (the large property with mature trees, a stream, that open floor plan and updated kitchen, a long driveway) began to fade. Suddenly, the glory of the next life out shined the sweetest blade of grass and the calmest ocean here on earth.
I realized that spending my whole life planning to set myself up on this Earth was short-sighted.
Jesus showed me that I need to spend my whole life setting myself up for the next life.
The enemy wants to steal your time. He delights as hours turn into years spent engaging our minds in things that are not real. He will convince you that the actors are your friends, that their battles, and their lives are a part of our world. He will create excitement and anticipation that will leave you with an emotional high while you long for more. He is the thief of souls.
We mark our calendars for the next episode while neglecting our churches, our families, and our marriages.
Psalms 12:1 – “Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.”
I am not saying that enjoying a series or relaxing in front of the TV is wrong. I am saying that if electronic relationships are prioritizing your daily living, repentance is in order. Where are the hands and feet of Jesus? Where are the followers of Jesus on Sunday?
The neglect of the church is a sad reflection of the Glory of God. Reinvest in others.
2 Chronicles 16:9 – “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”
What is keeping you from worship? Sports? A busy schedule? Entertainment? Complacency? Family? Deep down, we know those things will not stand when we are face to face with Jesus.
Psalm 37:5 “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.”
The bride of Christ is His church and we are called to love His bride without wavering. Commit and HE WILL ACT. That is a promise from God.
